Rookie's on a Budget
By: Ryan Thompson

With no mail to report, I thought I would copy Beckett and do a "You need to get these cards!" rookie edition. As collectors are on a budget, I have included cards that can be bought for very cheap compared to both their book value and personal value of the collector.

With that said, here are the rookie cards that I own, and would stress any collector to get a hold of either this version or another version he/she prefers.
Jay Bruce 08' Bowman #BDP11 - Young Red's prospect is set up for a breakout rookie year in outfield. This card can be found on ebay for 2-3 dollars.

Michael Jordan 91' Upper Deck #SP1 - Get this card not for what he did in baseball, but for its novelty. You can find raw (ungraded) copies for as low as 2 dollars.

Kobe Bryant 96' Topps #138 - The most dominate player in basketball today, he has continued to amaze spectators from season to season. Once he wins the Finals with out Shaq, it will solidify his status as the NBA's strongest current player. I got my copy for 6 bucks on SportLots.com.

Joe Flacco 08' Score Gold #344 (serial numbered to 400) - Having one of the best rookie years in decades, Flacco led the Ravens deep into the playoffs and has set them up for a promising upcoming season in 2009. I fortunately pulled this from a pack, but copies are found at 15 to 20 dollars.
Brett Favre 91' Upper Deck #13 - This card's value went down dramatically with the Packers fiasco last off season. Pick it up now and keep it until hes inducted into the HOF. I got mine for about 3 bucks on SportLots.com.

Matt Ryan 08' Press Pass Legends #3 (serial numbered to 99) - Ryan had an amazing rookie year and rebounded the faulting Falcons to a playoff berth. I got my copy for 6 bucks on SportLots.com.
Sidney Crosby '05 Powerplay Redemption #133 - Sid the Kid has proved that he is a one of a kind player and took the Penguins to the playoffs last year. With his injury problems this year, its value has dropped to about 20 to 25 dollars for a raw copy.

Saku Koivu 95' Topps #306 - Koivu has had an amazing pro career with over 500 points and 174 goals in 13 years in the NHL. Pick this gem up for 2-3 dollars on ebay.
